Signs Your Water Heating System Is Failing

Most households depend on water heater systems to warm water for showers, washing dishes, and other uses. As such, you don't want your water heater malfunctioning more so during the winter. Unless you are a fan of cold showers, you should be wary of the signs of a failing water heater. Call your plumber immediately after you spot any of these signs.

Lack of Hot Water

Your hot water system should always provide hot water unless there is a problem. Note, the water shouldn't be lukewarm; it should be hot. So, if you have been running out of hot water lately, have a plumber look at your water heater system. Your hot water tank may have a lot of sediment at the bottom. And as you know, the more sediment in your tank, the less space there is for hot water. The plumber will flush the deposits to fix the issue.

Unusual Noises

Modern water heater systems are designed to be quiet. They shouldn't make noise when running. So, if you notice unusual, loud noises from the hot water tank, there is a problem. As such, you must hire a plumber to inspect the system. The loud noises indicate that sediment has accumulated in the tank. Therefore, you must have the tank flushed before it's too late.

Discolored Water Coming From Faucets

Your faucets and shower heads should always have clean water. So, don't assume that it's normal to have discolored or smelly water dripping from your faucets. The problem might be in your water source, but you should call a plumber to confirm. If your water source is okay, the problem might lie in your water heater. Discolored water is an indicator that rust is forming in the tank, and you might need to replace the anode rods or flush the tank.

Frequent Repairs

Your water heater system might be on its last leg if it keeps malfunctioning. You are probably spending more money on repairs than you'd have thought. In most cases, this happens due to aging water heater systems. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to stop the frequent repairs. Your only option is to replace the entire water heater unit.

The Tank Leaks Water

Water leaking from the hot water tank should be another cause for concern. So, always check for damp spots or puddles on the floor. If you spot them, it's a sign your hot water tank is leaking. Maybe age has caught up with the tank, or you haven't been maintaining the system. You can hire a plumber to see if the leaks are repairable, or if you'll have to replace the tank.
