Getting Ready For A Faucet Installation Appointment
While installing faucets is not the most difficult of plumbing tasks, it is one that requires finesse and the right tools. As such, many homeowners hire a plumber to do this instead of installing faucets on their own. You should not have to do much prep prior to your faucet installation appointment. However, it can be helpful if you do the following things before the plumber arrives.
Turn off the water supply.
If there is an existing faucet where you're having the new one installed, or if your contractor just installed a new sink and simply "capped" the cold and hot water lines, then the water pipes leading to the sink are probably still on. If possible, locate the valves associated with these lines and turn them off. They are often located just below the sink. Sometimes you will find them in the basement. There will be a cold and a hot water line; turn them both off. This way, your plumber will be able to get straight to the faucet installation, which will save them time.
If you can't locate the water valves, don't worry. A plumber can do this part for you. They simply appreciate it when it has already been done prior to their visit.
Make sure the faucet hole is the right size.
If you just had a new sink installed, the contractor should have cut a hole for the faucet. Make sure it was cut to the proper size for the faucet you're having installed. If it was not, then you may need to have the contractor come back and cut a larger hole. Or, you could call the plumber and ask if they have or can recommend any faucets that fit in the hole you do have. You just don't want the plumber to arrive, find that the hole is the wrong size for the faucet, and not be able to go through with the installation.
Note other small plumbing tasks that need to be done.
Installing a faucet should not take your plumber very long. While they're coming out, you may want to have them tackle some other small plumbing tasks such as replacing your toilet flapper, clearing a slow drain, or replacing the gasket on a leaking faucet. Make note of these tasks and call the plumber to see if they can fit them into your faucet installation appointment.
With the preparation above, you'll be ready to have those faucets installed. For more information on a faucet installation in your area, contact a professional near you.
