3 Ways To Clean Your Pipes

A clean drain is important. It lets everything run from in your house out to your septic tank or to the sewer line. So, when the drain starts to slow, it means that the pipes are narrowed or clogged. When that happens, you need to have someone come out and clean your drains for you. You can try something on your own before you have a plumber fix the issue.

Chemical Drain Cleaners

One thing that you can do is to try chemical drain cleaners. These products are designed to eat away at clogs in your pipes and get the water moving through them again. There are also products that foam up when you put them in the pipes. That expanding foam is supposed to clear any stuff on the sides of your pipes. As you use your pipes, stuff just naturally starts to collect on the sides. As stuff builds up on the sides, it attracts more stuff, narrowing the pipe. The goal behind the foaming cleaner is that it will wash that stuff off the sides of the pipe. If you use chemical drain cleaners, make sure to warn any plumber who works on your pipes. They will need to make sure that they are wearing protection when working with those chemicals.

Baking Soda and Vinegar

You can also try the baking soda and vinegar trick. If you are going to do this, you want to start with boiling water. Pour the boiling water down the drain you are concerned about, then pour some baking soda down the drain. You might want to use a funnel to make it easier for you to get the powder into the drain. After that, pour some vinegar in the drain and cover it up. Let the concoction sit in the pipes for a while and then pour some more boiling water down the drain. Try the sink again in a few minutes to see if everything goes down.

The Professionals

Probably the best thing you can do is to call a plumber to come to take a look at the problem. If you have tried everything and your drain still isn't draining well, you might make it worse if you keep trying. A professional will be able to save you from that happening.

If you are worried about your pipes, you want to make sure that they get cleaned out as soon as possible. For more information about drain cleaning, contact a plumber.
